Poets and poetry lovers will gather at the Cottonmill Park Amphitheatre in Kearney on Thursday, August 6th at 7:00 pm for an event that the organizers are calling the “Masked Poetry Reading.” Hosted by the Prairie Art Brothers, the reading will feature 3 notable Kearney area poets, Charles Peek, Terry Schifferns, and Kevin Nenstiel. There will also be time for “open mic” readings. Emerging and established poets from the area are welcome to join in. The open mic readings will be limited to 10 minutes each. Masks are not required, but social distancing is strongly encouraged.
Come experience some good ole’ fashioned cowboy fun here at the Merryman with the Bar J Wranglers! The Irish Cultural Academy annually brings together some of its best exponents of Irish traditional music, song, and dance as part of one sensational eight-member group known as The Young Irelanders. This group has performed across six continents, as lead performers with “Riverdance” and “Lord of the Dance” and on PBS specials.
The son of a small-town farming community, Cody Diekhoff logged plenty of highway and stage time under the name Chicago Farmer before settling in the city in 2003. Profoundly inspired by fellow Midwesterner John Prine, he’s a working-class folk musician to his core. His small-town roots, tilled with city streets mentality, are turning heads North and South of I-80.
You’ll take a sentimental journey with this all singing, all dancing, all big band salute to Bob Hope’s 1942 USO tour. All Hands on Deck features more than 40 classic big band hits with a live nine piece orchestra. Be a part of a live radio show with on-air antics, classic commercials, and timeless songs with a wonderful patriotic finish.

Programming both classical and popular favorites, countertenor Terry Barber shows his huge vocal range, singing from baritone to mezzo soprano. A former member of the Grammy-winning men’s chorus “Chanticleer”, Terry has performed with Madonna, Jewel, Chaka Khan, Cyndi Lauper and others. Joining Terry will be a Juilliard-trained pianist and a wind soloist from the NY Philharmonic.
Five Time Grammy award winning Christian artist Sandi Patty celebrates the season with Christmas anthems, “Angels We Have Heard on High, “Joyful, Joyful WE Adore Thee,” and Sandi’s original version of “O Holy Night.”
