Firefighter Storytime

We invite preschoolers, parents, and caregivers to a special storytime event. Firefighters from the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department will read stories about fire safety and then demonstrate what they wear in a fire. This demonstration helps children understand that they don't need to fear firefighters and that they shouldn't hide from them in an emergency.

Acclaimed Celtic fingerstyle guitarist, Jerry Barlow, is a virtuoso musician, a warm and accessible performer, and a world-class storyteller. His repertoire is composed of traditional music from the British Isles and his own original Celtic-inspired compositions. In concert, Barlow brings songs alive by sharing the history, legend, and humor behind the music. His arrangements have been described as "music to soothe the soul, warm the heart, and lift the spirit." This is a free event for all ages.

The Book of the Tile Club

Founded in 1877, The Tile Club was a group of prominent artists (Winslow Homer, William Merritt Chase, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Edwin Austin Abbey, J. Alden Weir, and John H. Twachtman) who met weekly to paint eight-by-eight ceramic tiles, smoke cigars and drink whiskey. Come learn the stories about their club life, and their contributions to the decorative and plein arts of the late 19th Century.
