Weekend In Kearney Check-list

Hit the road and head to Kearney for the weekend! With family-friendly attractions, fantastic dining, unique shopping, and live entertainment, fun isn’t hard to find in Kearney! Read on to hear 7 must-dos during your weekend getaway.

  1. The Archway

Make the Archway part of your travel adventure! Spend as little as an hour or all afternoon at the Archway campus.  Take the self-guided tour through the historical museum, pan for gold and gemstones, complete the outdoor maze, visit the fish pond, and stroll on the hike/bike trail.  The Archway is a tribute to the adventurers who traveled through Nebraska in the past and an inspiration to the adventurers of today. 

2. Downtown ‘on the Bricks’

This historic district features original brick streets and a variety of unique boutiques, home decor/furniture stores, cool coffee shops, fine dining, specialty pubs, and nightlife experiences. Hitting the bricks is a must for visitors!

3. Museum of Nebraska Art

Kearney is proud to be home to the Museum of Nebraska Art which is the official art collection of the State of Nebraska. MONA, for short, exhibits artwork of all kinds created by artists with ties to Nebraska. Enjoy a stroll through MONA’s galleries, gift shop, and sculpture garden, open Tuesdays through Sundays, and is free to the public.

4. Eat Local

Hope you come hungry as there are so many places to try while in town! Featuring local cafes like Kitt’s Coffee and Good Evans, to fine-dining like Alley Rose and Coppermill to unique flavors from Thai restaurant Suwannee or Japanese steakhouse Kyoto.

5. Enjoy the Outdoors

Hop on the Kearney Hike/Bike Trail for over 20+ miles of paved trail which takes you through some of Kearney’s most-loved parks, from Cottonmill to Yanney Park to the Archway and out to Fort Kearny. Or during the warmer months try out the Kearney Water Trail for a fun float.

6. Big Apple Fun Center

The Big Apple Fun Center is Kearney’s largest family entertainment facility, fun find year-round with indoor mini-golf, bowling, laser tag, ball pit, and sports bar.

7. Murals & Public Art
