Living History @ Fort Kearny

Celebrate Labor Day weekend with Living History at Fort Kearny State Historical Park!

Take a step back in time and experience what it was like to be stationed on the western frontier during the 1860s, and while you are here be sure to watch them fire off one of their cannons!

Schedule

There will be a cannon firing at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with a special night firing on Sunday at 8 p.m.

Living history volunteers’ camp will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Monday at from 9 to 2 p.m.

Reenactors will be at the park to discuss life as a soldier during the fort’s early days. Visitors to the park will be able to explore exhibits and the reconstructed buildings, including the stockade, grounds, powder magazine and blacksmith/carpenter shop.

Be sure to check out special living history activities and demonstrations on Sunday evening at 7 p.m.

A valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.


Fort Kearny was a historic outpost of the United States Army founded in 1848 in the Western United States during the middle and late 19th century. The fort was named after Colonel and later General Stephen Watts Kearny. The outpost was located along the Oregon Trail near Kearney, Nebraska.
