The Big Event is the largest, one-day, student-run service project in the nation. This national organization started at Texas A&M in 1982, with an aim to give back to local communities through one large day of service. It’s a day where students from campuses across the nation choose to say “thank you” to the residents around their university’s community. For over 10 years, UNK students have participated in this annual event to show their appreciation for Kearney and Buffalo County by completing service projects. Here in Kearney, thanks to the dedicated UNK volunteers and excellent community participation, we have grown this event to over 400 students and over 40 job sites.
